Demanding back what was ours to start with

Have you seen this Census commercial? Can you spot the problem here?

Outside of spending a ton of money (high admin costs anyone?), I’m irked by the message in this and other Census marketing materials. “We want our cut” might be effective, but it plays on the (willful?) ignorance of most people that the cut they want was theirs to start with. The feds don’t make money. They take ours. So what you’re proudly sending that Census form in to make sure you get a cut of? Yep, your money that you sent them in the first place. At least in Texas, we get most of ours back, thank goodness.

Just think how many hospitals and roads and who knows what else your community could have if you didn’t have to send it to the feds first. Hmmm.
